Story of Love:

HAND in HAND was founded in honor of my grandparents, who were married for 56 and 67 years respectively. They were happily married and constantly expressed their eternal love, commitment and devotion for one another, their entire family and their close friends, which today leaves my family with the warmest memories and a strong legacy to follow.

My Nani Faye and Popsie Maury, who were married for 67 years, had a secret, silent way of telling each other how much they loved one another, regardless of where they were or who might be around. This became known as their “secret hand squeeze communication.” My Popsie would squeeze 4 times representing, "Do you love me?" My Nani would then answer, "Yes I do" with three squeezes in reply. My Popsie would then ask with 2 squeezes, "How much?" And my Nani would then emphatically end the conversation with the single BIGGEST, HAND-BREAKING squeeze she could in exclamation of their love for each other! This is where the name HAND in HAND comes from and was one of the key inspirations in founding our business.

The seeds for HAND in HAND were planted in October 2000 when Marc’s own search for the perfect engagement ring proved to be a frustrating experience. “Everything looked the same. I went to just about every retail jeweler in San Francisco and a number of others in my home town of Chicago. Although some pieces were better designed or executed than others, they were slight variations of the same generic ring. Given this was the most special moment in my life, I wanted my wife to have something truly unique, modern, timeless and specially designed for her and to tell our unique story. I wanted her to have something that was designed to be a personally meaningful heirloom piece symbolizing everything that our engagement meant to us and something that nobody else would have,” says Marc.

After designing and creating his own engagement ring, Marc’s wife Kim provided a resounding “YES!” (which is kind of key to this whole story) and immediately began wearing her new ring. She quickly found that she was constantly getting stopped by admirers who wanted to know where she got such an exquisite, unique ring. “At least 10 people per day stopped me for literally numerous years straight to tell me how much they loved my ring, how they never had seen anything like it, and how gorgeous and clearly high quality it was,” says Kim. “Even today I continue to get stopped daily which makes me feel really special as it makes my ring that much more meaningful of a symbol of a very special moment and snapshot in time.”

After deciding to follow through on over two years of Kim pleas and encouragement to take the plunge, Marc quit his “real job” doing high tech business development and marketing and started HAND in HAND. The rest as they say, is history.

In only a handful of years, Marc has gained the respect and admiration of his many clients from around the globe and has garnered some incredible press, including being invited to show one of his designs at the Emmy’s!

“I’m completely humbled and honored to partner with the most amazing, caring, detail-oriented and unbelievably talented master craftsmen in our profession," says Marc. "I was shocked to actually find craftspeople that cared as much about the fine details as I do, and who have over forty-five years of technical experience to draw from. It enables me to design freely and fully explore my creativity. Then they perform their magic and enable me to bring my clients’ dreams to reality."

When not designing custom jewelry for his clients, Marc enjoys practicing yoga, playing basketball, traveling and enjoying time with his family & friends.

After spending 14 years designing and creating employee incentive, reward and recognition programs for one of the nation’s top-retailers, Kim joined HAND in HAND in 2006 to focus on all things marketing, communication and PR related. She brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the team and enjoys being the first point of contact for many HAND in HAND clients, vendors and partners.

Kim spends her free time baking sinful treats, getting any kind of pampering she can and spending as much time laughing & enjoying life with her family & friends.
